Art Basel Miami Beach 2014 December 19 2014

Earlier this December us at State of Wonder were in Miami Beach for the 13th edition of Art Basel. Leading galleries from the 5 continents showed contemporary works by emerging and established artists. The "Editions" sector, inaugurated last year, has been repeated with great success with 12 galleries attending. Design Miami celebrated it's 10th anniversary and included a gallery from Miami (Diet Gallery) for the first time. The curated exhibitions, part of the collaborations with Perrier-Jouët, Swaroski, Fendi and Olson Kundig were particularly stunning and innovative. Marina Abramovic touched on the subject of focus, meditation and slowing down in more than one installation. It is always a fascinating cocktail of art and ideas. Here is some of what we saw and loved and want to share here:

Roman Lounge by Dimore Studio for Fendi at Design Miami
Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran, from Dimore Studio, offer their interpretation of an ideal Fendi apartment in Rome.

Ephemera by Studio misher'traxier - A Conversation between mankind and nature. Presented by Perrier-Jouët at Design Miami. Ephemera is the starting point of Small Discoveries which the Austrian duo Katharina Mischer and Thomas Traxier plan to tell the story of the magical dialogue between nature and mankind.

Uncertain Surfaces at Patrick Parrish Gallery at Design Miami. Gridded steel-mesh furniture installation by Minnesota-based studio RO/LU and matching clothing by New York designers Various Projects.

512 hours, Marina Abramovic. Beyeler Foundation at the main fair at Convention Center. An exercise where participants of the fair lie down, rest, and sleep with no time restriction. An opportunity to slow down within the fast-paced environment of Art Basel.
